“Roswitha Komar’s dream to taking care sick people”
To imitate other people’s lifestyle is permitted as long as advantageous. Knowledge that she has is transferred to her students. She is so convinced that health can be obtained if we eat healthy food, exercise regularly and meditate. Not only doing one of them.
The overcast afternoon, wind blows gently touch the tree grown in the green house located in Cipete. The lady who becomes the Nirmala’s guest, Ibu Komar, what she is called, has just closed the meditation class which have some young women as their participants. The living room which has been used for meditating is not too wide, but seems to be cool. Not because the floor is made of cool marble but the interior design which is simple and comfortable to look at. The ancient dark earthenware jugs are arranged tidily.
On the wooden desk there is a plate filled with sweet potato cake and few cup of water which are half full. Maybe they are the leftover from the people who have just finished meditate.
Nirmala joined in and sit down with the leg crossed together with other participants who have been waiting to be picked up. “I noted that the women concerns about their health more than the man” said Ibu Komar opening the conversation.
If the ladies become sick, she would struggle to cure their disease, however, if the gentlemen are sick, they don’t even care and want to diet. Even if they have diabetes or heart disease, but still, they refuse to diet. Nevertheless, it is easier to teach about healthy life to woman rather than man, she added smiling.
The woman who on that afternoon wore white shirt with a natural make up looks feminine. Her shoulder length hair hung loosely. The lines in her face reveal her seriousness and firmness.
Knitting spiritual relation
Roswitha is not a doctor, yet, she is always surrounded with the people who just healed from sick or those who are seeking piece in their soul. She always treated her students as her friends, in fact, as her own and beloved family. Hence, the spiritual relation is knitted beautifully.
Let say, Veronica, a house wife who has suffered lupus disease or Merina who has suffered Myasthenia Gravis, an auto immune disease which cause the motoric nerves become weak, two of many people that she took care can be back to normal and do their activity.
Where does it begin?
When I was 26, I experienced heavy depression without certain reason. I feel threaten and did not have any friend. When I was in the crowd, my mouth become stiff, she alleged.
Then I undermined a general medical check up and the result was quite surprising, almost all my organ has problem although nothing was serious. According to my doctor, this could be caused by mind. The depression affected my organ and become sick, she explained.
This thing shocked herself hence Roswitha determined to heal herself. Thereafter, she began to seek ways to cure her depression. One of the things that she did was through meditation.

Self healing
In 1991, her determination to study meditation was so strong. Roswitha imagined that through meditation, she expected to be able to fix her daily problem. Through her friend who is a psychiatrist, she was introduced to Alidin Doeana, who was 62 years old (now has passed away)
Mr Alidin has suffered brain cancer and cured his disease by consuming healthy food (vegetable and fruit), do meditation and waitankung exercise.
Although he has gone to Germany and Dutch to seek the medicine, his cancer can not be healed. Not long time after that, he found a way to cure himself, those is by doing the three things. The cancer can be cured. His effort inspired me to do the same thing, she said.
After recovered from his illness, Mr Alidin spread out his healthy life pattern to other people. Roswitha thought at that time, it would be enjoyable to live like Mr Alidin, every where he goes he teach people to live healthy and teach waitankung exercise.
Therefore I am interested in helping sick people. May be because I understand their problems as I have been experiencing the same fear when I was being depressed, said the woman who have managed the school for disable children in Bengkulu for six years.
Always seeking for a friend
To taking care the hopeless people, she did it without being choosy. Even she greets the mentally sick people, she motivates them hence their life become meaningful.
One day, when her aunt suffered from Alzheimer and lying in the Mental Hospital in Dharmawangsa, she visited her. Due to her regular visit to the hospital, she knew and made friends with other patient. After her aunt recovered, she kept visiting the hospital twice a week and looking for her new friends to just have a chit chat and brought them some cakes. I am happy to be able to do that, even it may look awkward in other people’s mind, her saying
To follow my dad
The characteristic of being care with others is inherited from her dad, whose profession is a doctor. “To me, my dad is very special. He sincerely goes down to the village to help people. When he was appointed to become the Head of District Office Health, he precisely did not do his job as a doctor fully. He does not really like the position. Instead, he would prefer to help the sick people directly, she said
That thing explained in the meditation. The parent’s activities are witnessed by the children and recorded strongly in the children’s mind. Hence it is easier for the children to do the same thing. This is explained why there are a lot of children have the same profession with their parents, she thought.
Her memory with her dad who passed away when he was 57 always recorded beautifully in Roswitha’s mind.
What I am doing now is related to the memory that my dad’s painted on me. I have no longer participated in the Government’s Institution as an active official’s wife, but I have the capability and facility. My life has to be meaningful, thought this 57 years old lady. To share happiness with others she feels as a normal thing and the way it should be. She precisely admires the effort of those people that she ever guided. “They do heal themselves until they recover. If there are other people who suffer like Veronica (a housewife who suffers from Lupus) that person just could not stand. In pain as well as experiencing other problems in her life, Vero still has the spirit to live. I think that is amazing, she thought.
Pushing aside phobia
The lady who has Acehnese and East Javanese’s blood is the figure of the strong lady who is very determined. When she learnt or did something, it has to be finished. She was so certain that the diligence and discipline will be fruitful. Not with the exception of her current profession as an instructor of Bali Usada Meditation. (She joined in1998). For her, to become instructor was not because of having a great talent, but diligence.
Yet, in doing the girly job such as knitting the sofa’s cover, bed cover, or making her favourite cake, she always did that diligently and detail.
Time does not matter, but more importantly, the work has to be done, she thought. Before deepen Bali Usada meditation, Roswitha has learnt few type of meditation, due to her phobia.

“I was afraid of lightning, earthquake, being at the high building, or aeroplane. In Aceh there was a big earthquake, after that I got trauma and very afraid”, she said.
Become Vegetarian
Unexpectedly, in 1991, when she was relaxing in her house, she found a pocket book titled Back to Eden. The book which was previously thought as a story book, was indeed the narrative related to unhealthy food, such as beef, chicken, and fish. That book strokes her heart.
Do we have to eat that kind of food? I started to think why I have to live like this, consuming the food that said in the book were the poison. Few days after reading the book, she decided to change her daily meal menu with the healthy food. She ate a lot of vegetables and fruits. The meals are not fried anymore, but they are steamed or baked. Cakes, sugar, salt, no longer had she eaten. Since that day, she was determined to become vegetarian. Now she likes to drink carrot and apple juice.
To complete her healthy life, she learnt Buddhism meditation through her relative, Bapak Herman Endro, to seek quietness. Then she learnt various meditation, until she found Bali Usada health meditation which is not bounded with any believe.
In the late 1991, Roswitha started to live healthy. Apart from being vegetarian and meditating, she also did waitankung exercise twice a day diligently until for 1,5 years.
Meditating every day
At the photo session, Roswitha brought us to her back yard. The back yard is designed like a small forest, filled with big trees. That back yard equipped with the stairs made from stone. At the backyard there was a ‘cage’, with round shape, with the height of more than 1.7 meter. The cage is cover with the cloth, supported with the rope bonded to the eternity. It can be filled with one person in the cross-leg position. “This is where I meditate, because in here there is a lot of mosquito, I made this cage cover, she said.
Since joined with Bali Usada, she admitted almost every day she meditates, which already become part of her life. “Within that seven years, maybe only two years I absent from meditation, she continued.

Currently, she is trying to meditate for 2-2.5 hours non stop every day for 4 months. So far she can do that. The biggest temptation is the leg sore.
She felt Bali Usada Meditation is very suitable because of all of the things that she learnt are already in it.
If we are stress, all mediation can be a tool for creating sudden calm. Relax for a while, feel the whole body, can release stress. But from my experience, Bali Usada meditation can also release bad memory which leads to permanent stress.
Have to be balance
With the knowledge that she gathered, when guiding and facing with her students, she always tells good news that is, it would be better to do the health meditation while we are still young and healthy. If we are already sick, it will be harder to do that.
The health of the rough and soft body has to be balance. We can not become healthy by only meditating, but have to be balanced with exercise and eat healthy food. As a meditator I have to do all of them, told the lady that until now still doing morning walk and Taichi exercise.
To do meditation for the most people is not as easy as flipping the arm. There are some people who have tried meditation but still feeling empty, because their minds are still keeping running. “We could always try to call back the running mind. Putting it back is a positive thing. Do not be panic if we can not concentrate. We have to hold our thinking in our nose. Every time our mind runs, put it back to nose. It is the anchor. Maybe when we meditate 30 minutes, we daydreaming for 20 minutes, so be it, it is alright. If we practise diligently, hopefully our ability will increase” she said optimistically.
Muffling Anger
Since become a Bali Usada Instructor, she feels that she has a lot of new friends. “I am very grateful to my teacher, Bapak Merta Ada who has been gathering us from different background, culture and religion become one big family who care about each other.” she said.
Meditation makes a good relationship and in a peaceful way. On the other hand, for herself, she noted meaningful changes for her life.
The most obvious thing is that the ability to put up with anger. With having Dad from Aceh, mother from East Java, if I was angry, I did not say it out but just keep quite, because I tend to follow Acehnese. But nowadays, I have no longer done that. Even if I did, it is only to educating purposes. I have no longer exposed with anger, she thought.
It is easier to see things with the positive thinking, this is one of the benefits of meditation. She admitted that she becomes more sensitive when she is not really healthy. When she meditates, she directed her thought to the uncomfortable part of her body.
Curious about her dream? If there is a person who has got a lot of money, big land and build houses to accommodate the sick people, I would like to help to taking care of those people at my best, guiding them to practise meditation hence they become independence, to teach healthy eating pattern and exercise, this what I would like to share with them.
